Bringing in the May

The Merry month of May is finally upon us. The Hawthorn & Blackthorn awash with sprays of blossom. The woods and copses ring with the trill of the Wren and a multitude of migratory birds return from their winner haunts to nest among the brambles and sedge. The ear strains for the now elusive Cuckoo, and sap rises in branch and bough. May Eve, Beltane is a magickally charged time. Also it is when the founder of Alexandrian Craft, Alex Sanders sadly passed to the Summerlands back in 1988. Traditionally it is a time of love, when couples would dance under the erect Maypole, ribbons in hand and then repair to the leafy bowers as courting couples. The Horned Lord now shines forth and the Maiden Goddess, garland upon her brow of a verdant floral chaplet unite. Together they open the gates of Summer.
It is a time of joy, of love and dance. Our Rites reflect as ever natures cyclic round, honouring the union of our Gods and of life anew. The Goddess and The God speak to us through the beauty of the wild green earth, through tales of myth old and new and within the echoes of folklore.
Ritual expresses an intensity of joy and communion with the divine. The Gods recieve the gifts we give and they bestow the bounty the earth brings forth. We see the beauty of magick in all things, a current of life that runs through all. Stories create community and a sense of belonging. The Craft is an expression of the joys of harmony with nature, our Rites and the magick of its mysteries. To share this experience as a merry band, as a Coven is truly a wonderful thing.
As Flora's blooms begin to carpet the wooded glades, Pan reclines under the shade of the dark Pine, piping a plaintive tune that echoes through the valley below. And the moon she smiles as the foam washes the sands from whence Venus was born....
Thank you to all with whom we celebrated this joyful sabbat with.
Have a lovely Summer all!
